concord law school rip off
Are online law schools (like Concord Law School) considered reputable or a rip off?
I am pursuing my bachelors in English and want to go on to law school to obtain my J.D. I am also a stay at home mother to a small child and my husband works full time, so law school is going to be very difficult for me to attempt full time.
While I am looking into UT, UH, and St. Mary’s (I live in Texas and want to practice law in Texas, Big Law is not my goal here), I would like to find out about online law schools just to keep my options open.
Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with online law schools? I know that California allows people with L.L.M.’s to sit in for the baby bar, but exactly how does that work if I am a Texas resident? Would I have to travel to California just to take the Baby bar and then the actual bar?
Do not even consider a California online law school unless you plan on relocating from Texas to California to practice law. If you pass the bar exam in California, you would initially have to practice law in California. About 20 to 25 of the states have reciprocity rules, meaning that they will allow you to sit for their bar exam after X number of years of documented Law practice in California. This number varies from three to seven years. And to be honest I am not sure if Texas has this reciprocity rule. As others have mentioned, you would be better served attending a part time ABA evening Law program. And if you really think about it, Concord Law school is pretty darn expensive. I would bet that a part-time Texas ABA Law school is cheaper.
As for the quality of the education, I have attended and completed my first year at a California online law school, and I can attest that the education sucked. I paid them thousands of dollars to enroll, they send you your syllabi, and then from there you are on your own. Trust me, this was no education. You are paying for your ticket to sit for the California bar exam. Nonetheless, though I do not want to say which school I attended, it was not Concord. And I will admit that I have heard some good things about Concord. But then again, is it $10,000+ a year good? I don’t think so.
As for the Baby Bar, you will have to take the exam in California. The passing rate for this exam averages about 15%.
I hope this information helps.
