What did the White House do to the First Amendment?
By now we have almost all heard the story of how the White House requested that the image of Jesus be covered up during the President’s speech at Georgetown. We have heard arguments for and against religion, pro-separation and con-separation, but it seems to me that we are missing the true fact of what happened. If Obama had requested that an image of Jesus be placed behind him, then he would have been endorsing a religion, which would warrant someone claiming a violation of the First Amendment. What many fail to realize is that the request to cover it up also violates the First Amendment. “The federal government shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof”. The proper response from the Obama White House should have been to neither request nor deny, but to allow things to remain as they were.
