What are the copyright laws?
I have seen some novels out, furthering the story of Mr. and Mrs. Darcy from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, and other things along those lines. Of course they are taking and writing about the same characters created by another writer… is that the same as fanfiction? What makes the two different, and why are those books published? Is it because it was based on classic books that are not really under copyrights anymore…read freely online and all that? Just curious.
Do some people consider those writings under fanfiction type of writing? I had assumed that was basically what fanficion was.
sometimes work still under copyright can have sequels written by another author, so long as permission was granted ahead of time by the copyright owner and the professionally written manuscript approved (so it does not reflect badly on the original author or work).
fanfiction violates copyright because permission is not granted nor are the stories approved, and it is frequently written by amateurs who care little about how their stories reflect on the original author or work.
